Just over a week to go and of course I'm totally unprepared. There was mention of having to read up on some topics and of course I've gone straight back into exam period super procrastination mode. Now I have a shiney new email address, a clean room, an updated resume and no new knowledge on the Philippines. Nice to know you can't teach this old dog new tricks. I've been assigned to the project with the Shontoug Foundation based in Baguio city. Baguio is about 7 hours drive north of Manilla on the island of Luzon and is known as the summer capital of the Philippines and the city of ... Pines? Cool. Shontoug is an Indigenous Development NGO and over the course of the 10 weeks on project, we'll be working with rural and remote indigenous communities in the area around Baguio. It will all be community development, grass-roots work alongside these communities, so it should be a pretty awesome experience. Plus, we get to spend a week on the beach at the half-way point, so I'm hoping to get a bit of diving in somewhere along the way. God willing, I may find a tan some where along the way. Anyway, that's enough for now, I'll post more from Melbourne if I get a chance. We have to spend a week down in Melbourne training before flying out on the 9th for Manilla. Most importantly, all food is provided. AVI, you had me at hello, baby. |
